pig pickin’ 2012

i remember seeing signs for “pig pickin’” last year in chapel hill and having no idea what they were talking about. this year, we got to enjoy pig pickin’ firsthand with our church. apparently some guys got up at 4:30AM to start roasting a pig, which was ready for consumption 12 hours later.

oahu 2012: turtle beach and kahuku shrimp

we spent a day on the north shore and played at turtle beach. in the afternoon, we stopped in kahuku, popular for its shrimp trucks. we ate at giovanni’s, the original shrimp truck, and braved the lineups for the delicious shrimp scampi. garlicky buttery shrimp.

minami

we recently celebrated our 6th (!) wedding anniversary and treated ourselves with a dinner date at minami, a contemporary japanese restaurant in yaletown. they specialize in aburi, or flame-seared sushi, and specialty sauces to complement each fish instead of just soy sauce and wasabi. it was our first time there, and we weren’t disappointed! hamachi read more »

mexico in chicago
