mexico in chicago

we’re in chicago (sans bébé) for the weekend to attend a friend’s wedding. we met debra for breakfast at the busy original pancake house, enjoyed swedish pancakes, buttermilk pancakes along with our eggs and sausage.

then we stopped off at powell’s for some used book shopping

next, we headed to pilsen, a predominantly latino neighbourhood…

…to see the national museum of mexican art.

after the museum it was time for a late lunch. we visited a local taqueria, la cebollita, for some delicious tortas and burritos. sadly their famous tamales were sold out. the tamarind drink was very refreshing on a 100+ degree day!

by the mid-afternoon, it was HOT.

the only thing to do with the heat and full stomach was to take a nap….and then wake up in time for dinner!! more mexican food!
