on our roadtrip back home, we stayed an extra day in charleston for some much needed rest. we stayed 20 mins outside of the city at the inn at middleton place, a lovely retreat set in the midst of woods and water next to the middleton place plantation. in fact, the (expensive) entry fee to the plantation was included in our stay, which made it into a very unique experience.
our retreat

we walked along a short trail right onto the beautiful plantation.

walking along oak trees with hanging spanish moss

the massive “middleton oak” which measures over 10m in diameter. if you squint you can see rebecca in front of it.
pretty vignettes in every direction
we went on a house tour which was interesting. coolest thing was a small handwritten and signed note by abraham lincoln giving the owner of the note safe passage while traveling during the civil war.

a picnic lunch.

frolicking among the sheep
then a quick walk through the stables

on our way back to the hotel. pretty.
