getting ready

time is ticking along quite swiftly, counting down to baby’s due date. we are setting up the nursery, thanks to a crib from grandmommy L, as well as a number of useful items we’ve inherited from generous friends. the bookshelf is filling up with baby items, gifts from friends and family, as well as toys we’ve dug up from when i was little.

the dining room was recently a sweat shop, covered in pinks and yellows. grandmommy T is a talented seamstress and made a nursing pillow for me and baby, among other projects.

i beautified a simple store-bought quilt with some heart and elephant appliques i made out of fleece and fabric. hope baby likes it!

potluck get-together

we had a potluck at jane and rich’s home with a number of my old friends. everybody cooked yummy food!

daphne even brought me a special strawberry shortcake cupcake from NYC because i couldn’t eat the sushi she ordered. very sweet (daphne and the cupcake)!

baby shower II

i had a baby shower already with my friends before leaving chicago, and this weekend i was lucky enough to enjoy a second one! helen organized it with the help of louisa and angie (games-masters). we had beautiful and delicious food:

chinese stomachs

we have been replenishing our chinese stomachs with food from both spectrums of fanciness. a couple of examples include:

a wonderful discovery my mom and i made at the yaohan food court. xi an style lamb noodle and buns stuffed with pork. it was so yummy, all for $13.

joe’s parents took my family out for dinner. a succulent scallop with vermicelli drenched in a garlicky sauce. beautiful and delicious.

burgoo bday

we went out for a date on joe’s birthday a few days ago and had dinner at ‘burgoo’. warm stewy comfort food.

i liked the colours of this crab bisque.

diy lampshade

we were in need of some lighting, so i recycled one of my mom’s old lamps which i remember using as a kid growing up. the old lampshade actually still had the tacky plastic wrapping on it after 25 years, haha!

i found some pretty rice paper from paper-ya and ribbon which i glued onto the lampshade with spray adhesive and a glue gun.

the last few weeks have been busy with catching up with vancouver friends.

first, visiting janet, chris and baby madeleine, along with gina who was in town from california:

we celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary a couple of days ago with a home-cooked meal (courtesy joe), complete with our non-alcoholic drinks and a rose picked from the garden. it’s hard to believe how quickly time has passed. we are thankful for how God leads and protects, and for the big and small blessings we experience daily.

joe’s brother derek and family were visiting for the week from california. one beautiful day we went to granville island and had lunch at “go fish”, the outdoor fish n’ chips shack. i’ve actually been craving it for awhile now. the line up was long, but it was worth it!

I was very glad to have my friend Kim help me drive from Chicago to Vancouver last week. Though we were on a rather tight schedule (we covered the entire trip in 3.5 days), we still managed to see quite a bit on the road.

I had to pack the car to the max:
