chapel hill farmer’s market

we dropped by the saturday farmer’s market in chapel hill. bought some yellow grape tomatoes and a little fabric-made basket (passed on the worms and alpaca yarn though). and then got our faces painted!

city of frogs

we all went to see a wonderful outdoor puppet show called “City of Frogs”, by the Paperhand Puppet Initiative. It took place at Forest Theatre, a stone amphitheatre surrounded by trees at the edge of campus. waiting for the show to start! beautiful sets and bigger than life puppets, filled with singing and dancing. she read more »

happy 2nd birthday

she is 2 years old: a full-fledged terrible two and sunshine all wrapped up in one package. current interests/obsessions include elmo, “picky mouse”, eating with chopsticks, counting, and well, mommy. of course i’m sure that will change next week. we spent a quiet day at home with birthday balloons and cake. endless fun. the anticipation. read more »

back to chapel hill

summer is over, which means we’re flying home to chapel hill. this time she got her own seat! unfortunately our second leg was delayed, and so our 4 hour layover in chicago was extended to more than five hours! happily for me, she napped for a couple of hours, which meant i could enjoy a read more »

julie’s wedding

after flying the redeye back from hawaii, i managed to take a quick power nap and then make it to julie’s wedding in the afternoon. a beautiful ceremony with romantic flowers and a radiant bride! the reception: the happy couple, dancing and dessert.

oahu 2012: cocktails, hula & sunsets

one last hawaii post! when you think hawaii, you imagine tropical drinks (fighting over the pina colada) … …hula dancing …sunsets …and beautiful flowers. we had a wonderful trip, although we wish daddy could have been with us (instead of back to work in NC). i guess that means we’ll have to come back! aloha!

oahu 2012: parks and recreation

one morning, we walked to ala moana beach park and played around the big banyan tree. then in the afternoon, one last time to the beach before heading home the next day.

oahu 2012: the animals

we saw so many different animals, especially all kinds of fish and birds. at the hilton next door, we loved the ponds of gigantic coi. there were also exotic birds, penguins (poor penguins!) and turtles. we drove to a fancy hotel that had dolphins and more multicoloured fish. we even saw a big sea turtle read more »

oahu 2012: the east shore

along the east shore of the island, we briefly stopped at the halona blow hole. we didn’t get to see any action, but it was nonetheless pretty and very windy. lanikai beach, known for its turquoise waters and super fine white sand beach. beautiful!

oahu 2012: turtle beach and kahuku shrimp

we spent a day on the north shore and played at turtle beach. in the afternoon, we stopped in kahuku, popular for its shrimp trucks. we ate at giovanni’s, the original shrimp truck, and braved the lineups for the delicious shrimp scampi. garlicky buttery shrimp.
