snow can make you happy. snow can make you sad. last year it got so cold one week that our car battery died and doors were frozen shut. this year we’ll try to be more careful about keeping the car in shape during the winter season. fortunately the city has a pretty efficient snow clearing system for the major roads, which made commuting to work more bearable this week.

last night we attended a concert at Rockefeller Chapel; Handel’s Messiah was presented by the university chorus and symphony, plus some special guest soloists. although they couldn’t include the entire oratorio, it still lasted an hour and a half. it’s amazing to think that music written almost 300 years ago can still attract and move people today.
