snowy sunday

looks like there’s a good chance we’ll have a white christmas this year. after a lot of digging, we finally got the car out and made it to church for a very meaningful “service of lessons and carols“. only ten more days until Christmas!

dinner and a movie

last night we hung out with our fellow vancouverite-in-chicago friend mike. after a tasty italian dinner outside of lincoln square, we watched “i am legend” at a small theatre close by. we liked will smith, but i wouldn’t recommend the movie unless you are ready for some attacking zombie action…which i wasn’t. at least our read more »

a veggie tale christmas

the advent season is well under way. we came across this little scene while babysitting for friends. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

renegade craft fair

despite the cold and ice, we made our way to the renegade craft fair on the northside of chicago. it’s always fun browsing through these fairs because you never know what you might find. as expected there were many vendors selling jewelery, bags and paper goods. one booth specialized in recycling old hard cover books read more »

white stuff

hong kong family trip (part one)

Last week I had the chance to be in Hong Kong with my family: my parents, my brother Derek and his family, and my aunt Agnes. Unfortunately Sherwin wasn’t able to make it, but at least she got to experience a genuine American Thanksgiving dinner in Chicago (see earlier post). Anyways, after a long day read more »

get nutcrackin’

my plans for post-thanksgiving black friday shopping fell through (due to illness), and so i had to settle for the next best thing which was post-thanksgiving weekend shopping (felt much better). on my way up michigan avenue to meet with grace (who’s in town for a conference), i bumped into the nutcracker. even HE has read more »

gobble gobble

joe is still away in hong kong/vancouver this week, but fortunately i was able to join a few families from church for a traditional american thanksgiving dinner. turkey time! in fact, kurtis cooked a deep-fried turkey out in the alley (kids don’t try this at home) which keeps the bird moist while cutting down cooking read more »
