Last week I had the chance to be in Hong Kong with my family: my parents, my brother Derek and his family, and my aunt Agnes. Unfortunately Sherwin wasn’t able to make it, but at least she got to experience a genuine American Thanksgiving dinner in Chicago (see earlier post). Anyways, after a long day of travel, we arrived and were able to have dinner with my aunt Terry, my uncle Antonio and cousin Kevin:

As always, our trip to Hong Kong involved a lot of eating. On the left is me with my mom having breakfast as “Cafe de Coral,” a popular fast-food place. On the right is an amazing bowl of dan-dan mien we had at a restaurant in the Whampoa area:

On Tuesday, my dad arranged for us to spend a day in Sheung Shui at the jockey club. Priscilla even took a horse-riding lesson:

There was a playground there with some interesting installations I had never seen before–including this non-stop spinning chair. You physicists out there can figure it out.

Wow, that dan-dan mien looks so good. So authentic. How did it compare to say Ning-tu?
You looked like you were having too much fun in that chair. I suspect it has nothing to do with fancy physics at all. The non-stop motion was actually being produced by a gnome operating a crank-shaft apparatus several feet under directly under the toilet plunger looking chair. That’s what I think.
The dan dan mien was better than Ningtu. The noodles especially were the perfect soft texture. As for the spinning chair, it seemed like a rather dangerous device to have in a playground for 5-9 year olds, since it was almost impossible to stop once it got going (even with my long legs it was hard to reach the ground to get it to stop).
glad you had a good time!
wow, that kid in the first photo has a shirt like something you would wear, joey. must run in the family
whenever we visit HK it’s the same thing… when do we go out to eat next? it seems that’s all people do there. i suppose it’s got something to do with most people not having houses large enough to entertain at home like we do on this side of the pacific.
i like how all of you refer to this obsession with food and eating as a ‘thing’ that only happens to you in hong kong. newsflash boys, we’re like that ALL the time!!! in fact, where are we all going to eat together next? i guess for Joey’s spring break?
