we attended our very first neighborhood block party! there will little games, and R brought her tricycle to ride around. our neighbors cooked a roasted pig and chickens, and everyone brought a dish to share.

christmas time in charleston

we took our family on a roadtrip to charleston for a few days before christmas. we returned to the inn at middleton place because we enjoyed it so much the last time.

idyllic views on the middleton plantation.

hanging around on magnolia plantation.

seeing the sights around charleston. we got to enjoy the beautiful christmas decorations on people’s front doors. i especially loved the lush magnolia leaf wreaths.

the aiken-rhett house (1820). this house tour was particularly interesting as the house was preserved but unrestored, so we could see the mansion and its slave quarters in its original state.

eating. fried chicken, shrimp sausage grits, crab cake eggs benedict.

christmas fun and lights. we braved an obscene amount of traffic to get to the festival of lights…painful to get there, but fun once we arrived. there was a lot of christmas carol singing in the car to pass the time!

belated thanksgiving

this is a month late… sorry! R got to do fun thanksgiving things at school, including help make apple tarts to bring home.

thanksgiving day involved a lot of eating! first i was invited to a thanksgiving breakfast with some wonderful women from church.

then thanksgiving “dinner” (at 1pm) potluck.

stuffing ourselves with the array of desserts. if only i had more room in my stomach…

on a non-food related note, we are of course very thankful for our many blessings, including our family, R’s school, J’s work and for our community here in Chapel Hill.

professional day

i remember loving professional days when i was a kid. now i’m an adult, and i still do! on R’s day off from school we took a field trip to visit daddy at work. first on our exciting list of things to do… take the bus!

ackland museum… which took a whole 15 minutes before R informed me she was ready to go.

killing time with mid-morning fries at sutton’s drug store (Est. 1923).

then we walked through campus and found daddy in his office!

hooray for professional day!

our 7th anniversary

this week we celebrated our seventh (!) wedding anniversary. having just taken advantage of free babysitting recently, we took R along on our dinner date to Campagnolo. seven years ago we would never have imagined that we would sitting there, the three of us… so very thankful for our little family.

our talented french-chef-in-the-making cousin elizabeth invited the entire family over for a home-cooked meal. we enjoyed amazing food while elizabeth and her helpers slaved away in the kitchen… thank you!

summertime means night market time! we arrived at opening and headed straight for the main event: the food.
