ben folds concert

we were lucky to get tickets to a ben folds concert on campus, which was part of his midwest campus tour. the music was great, and it was amazing watching ben folds at the piano; he plays around with the strings to make different sounds and plays really hard, even breaking a piano string in read more »

presidents day

today was apparently “presidents day”, so it seemed somewhat appropriate to think back to our roadtrip through mount rushmore, south dakota, on our way to chicago from vancouver. hard to believe that was a year and a half ago. for anyone interested, the memorial features (from left to right) washington, jefferson, roosevelt, and lincoln. we read more »

“the Big Game” party

tonight we attended the annual “the Big Game” party held at church, featuring the unbeaten new england patriots playing against the underdog new york giants. apparently referring to “the Big Game” by the Game’s actual name in association with a certain party is a copyright no-no. as usual, there were homemade corndogs and cincinnati-style chili read more »

merry christmas!

merry christmas everyone! here we are in front of the Macy’s centennial tree. we also love our own first christmas tree and all our new ornaments, including some which were knit by joe’s mom.

christmas eve in chicago

yesterday we spent christmas eve in downtown and went to the art institute. here’s mom in front of “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte” by George Seurat, and “The Red Armchair” by Pablo Picasso. then we went to Macy’s where the Martha Stewart inspired decorations were out as well as their Nutcracker window displays.

dinner and a movie

last night we hung out with our fellow vancouverite-in-chicago friend mike. after a tasty italian dinner outside of lincoln square, we watched “i am legend” at a small theatre close by. we liked will smith, but i wouldn’t recommend the movie unless you are ready for some attacking zombie action…which i wasn’t. at least our read more »

a veggie tale christmas

the advent season is well under way. we came across this little scene while babysitting for friends. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
