a highlight of our trip was our drive down a small portion of the blue ridge parkway. the blue ridge parkway is a scenic road that goes 755 km from virginia to north carolina.
on the road itself, you are surrounded by lush greenery with occasional openings to grand vistas of the mountains. they really do look blue in the distance.

our first stop was at Craggy Gardens, where we hiked up a trail to see 360 degree views. the rhododendrons were starting to bloom and they formed beautiful “tunnels” on the hike.

after a bit more driving, we stopped at Mount Mitchell, which we learned was the highest peak east of the mississippi river at an elevation of 6684 feet. more pretty views of mountains!

we wished we could have driven further, but we ran out of time. maybe next time we’ll do another roadtrip and go the whole way.

great effort by joseph, who carried rebecca up and down the 2 km return trail to craggy pinnacle.
