paris 2009: bon appétit!

on our way to france, we watched the movie “julie and julia” on the plane which got our tastebuds ready for french food and cooking. since we stayed at a place with a kitchen, we ended up making most of our meals to save a few euros, although we did get to eat out a read more »

paris 2009: pastry heaven

we’ve been indulging ourselves with french pastries. can you say “butter”? since we are living on rue montorgueil, we had to try something from “La Maison Stohrer” just down the street, the oldest patisserie in paris. in fact, the original Mr. Stohrer was King Louis XV’s pastry chef, and opened the store at this exact read more »

paris 2009: christmas market food

we couldn’t wait to try the food from the christmas markets, and so we decided to make a meal out of it. we went to the market between the trocadero and eiffel tower. first course, french onion soup, and a sausage sandwich. then we tried a foie gras and duck breast sandwich, which was dee-licious. read more »

greektown in chitown

my women’s group at church got together for a mini-high tea after finishing a study on the life of david. i made some scones which didn’t quite rise perfectly, but still tasted really yummy… with some creme fraiche and strawberry preserves. i’m actually craving them as i write this entry right now. after the cream read more »

lunch party

helen hosted a luncheon at her new apartment. as usual, the food was delicious and plentiful. time is always short when we’re in vancouver, so i felt lucky to see so many of our friends all at once! i was especially excited to meet little madeleine for the first time… so cute!

chen update

we shared a meal with the chen’s at corner23. mmm…taiwanese style pork hock. definitely getting our chinese food needs replenished. wish we had more time, but it was good getting updated with each other’s lives; matia is going to preschool, learning ballet, and preparing to be a big sister!

nyc 2009 (day five): mesa grill, united nations, harlem

on our last day in new york city, we returned to some neighborhoods like soho and did a bit more (window) shopping. look carefully, the building on the left is actually a trompe l’oeil. the flatiron building is on the right. for lunch, we treated ourselves to “mesa grill” near the flatiron district, one of read more »

chicken dinner

the paterson’s invited us over for a delicious meal: beer-can-smoked-chicken. it’s made exactly how it sounds, and it was sooo juicy… good job brian! we’re coming back for smoked turkey next time!
