helen is visiting us this week in chapel hill! after church we went to “weathervane restaurant” for an authentic southern brunch, complete with biscuits and grits. i think the waiter thought we were a bit dim for asking “what are grits?”, a southern staple. but now we know, it’s kind of like a porridge made of coarsely ground corn. it was good… kind of gritty.

for dinner we tried an italian restaurant called “four eleven west”. a lot of shrimp. baby tried scallop, mmmm.

grits! i just had those for the first time ever! we were at a bbq place out here, and they did put cheddar and jalapenos in the grits, but the Georgia folk with us proclaimed them “good grits,” and then had seconds.
also, i’m so glad helen is out visiting you guys. also also, i love how good times with helen usually involve awesome food!
your assessment of helen = food is correct. more to come!
Check out the size of the biscuit on my plate. The camera angle makes it look larger than it really was, but even so, it was twice as large as anything you would expect. I’m sure there was half of butter in it.
