there is a terrific free weekly children’s program at our local mall, done by two teachers who have a passion for teaching about recycling and the environment.

after the story/song/teaching time, you get to make a craft to bring home. here rebecca is working on her lion (with some glue support from mommy of course).

here we go, an eating post.

first, lunch at whole foods (conveniently right across from church). she thoroughly enjoyed her noodles, as well as some meatloaf and crabcake.

figured out how to use a straw.

after finishing and having eaten a large amount of food, she pointed to the salt and pepper shakers on the table (“no rebecca, that is not food”) and then to the leftovers of the woman sitting at the next table (“no rebecca, that is not your food”). it can be a bit embarassing sometimes.

later on, dinner at home. poor peas, tossed into the reject section of the tray.

a new pint-sized kitchen, that is. found a very affordable one on amazon, and was pre-warned that it required assembly.

they weren’t kidding…!

two hours later…

worth the effort though. it’s the perfect size and keeps her busy (at least part of the time) while i’m cooking.

hillsborough is a neighbouring town of chapel hill and known for its historic connections with the american revolution. first we stopped by the saturday morning farmer’s market:

right next to the market was the “Occaneechi Village”, a replica of a native american village which lived in the hillsborough area before being displaced by settlers.

took a walk through town and passed by some historic homes, mainly from the 1800′s. some had famous ex-owners, for example we passed by the home (not the one in photo) of one of the signers of the declaration of independence!

downtown.

it took four months, but she’s finally figured out that the church nursery without mom and dad is not that bad a thing! it was hard for us to know since she’s always crying when we leave (albeit getting better), but someone took pictures and now we have proof!

apparently that day she insisted on sitting in the stroller with seatbelt buckled nearly the entire time. silly child.
