i initially didn’t think i would get rebecca a hallowe’en costume, but at the last minute i decided i couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make her wear cute animal ears. inspired by a pair of adorable lion booties (thank you walter and gertrud!), i managed to sew her a little lion hoodie and vest, complete with tail. definitely worth the effort! her cuteness did earn me a couple of coffee crisps. oh yeah.

not too thrilled perhaps. roar?

we brought rebecca to meet her great-grandma (and only great-grandparent) last week. it was a very special visit and amazing to see my grandma respond and smile at her, despite her dementia.

The Oriental Institute Museum at the University of Chicago has a new special exhibit on the invention(s) of writing. The reason I mention this is because I contributed an article (on the beginnings of alphabetic writing) to the museum catalogue, which is available for free download (click on the image below to follow the link):

Apparently the exhibit has been getting a decent amount of publicity. Check out this review in the New York Times (click here).

Also, if anyone is planning on being in Chicago between now and March 6, you should definitely check out the exhibit!

sometimes rebecca likes to sit propped up on the nursing pillow, like a little throne. she is certainly quickly becoming queen of this castle and we are her humble subjects. sitting with her little friends:

a belated happy canadian thanksgiving to all! needless to say, there is much to be thankful for in our lives right now, most of all for our beautiful healthy daughter. our future steps are still uncertain but we know God leads us. mom and helen with pre-cooked turkey:

we were too eager to eat so there is no post-cooked turkey shot, but it was good…and leftovers were even better!

going to the doctor in her comfy carseat. falls asleep and loves resting her hands on top of the seatbelt.
