we’re pretty accustomed to the everyday noises we hear from our apartment; muffled talking at the bus stop, the occasional subwoofer from normal traffic and of course the trusty talking chicago buses. however, this week has been particularly noisy, especially after bedtime. we had a throng of screaming teenagers cheering for every bus that drove by, then we had the sound of persistent clanging of metal from our old building heaters, then last night we had a happenin’ friday night party above us with gut-vibrating-brain-numbing music until 1 am, and then another group of i’m-too-cool-for-school people creating havoc on the street until 3 am. don’t get the wrong idea, it’s not usually that crazy here…or maybe i’m just getting old. in any case, i’m very happy i can hear my thoughts again.

I feel your pain guys! There was a car alarm going off for two hours last night right outside my window. Loud noise at 11pm on a Sunday night does not make for a happy school teacher on Monday morning!!
ps. keep up the great blogging! i love reading about how you two are doing!
oh yes, i could remember our noisy neighbour days in seattle. from our bedroom wall we could hear even just normal volume conversation. but the worst was when we’d hear them… ummm… ‘make love’…. ahem.
and the one time you guys were there, waymen and i even call 911 on a group of kids in the parking lot outside our window. we kept peering out our window hoping to see what might be like an episode of ‘cops’. but they never came. guess noise complaint just even high up on their list of priorities.
kinda late now to ask, but I’m wondering how QUIET Chicago must seem to you, after spending a week in Hong Kong ?!
there was indeed a lot of hustle and bustle in hong kong (people and shopping EVERYWHERE), although not as noisy as china (where every car toots its horn every few seconds), which i had expected. we were also fortunate to live in a quieter residential area… which was quieter than our chicago apartment.
